Blundstone boots, answered
39 questions on sizing, breaking in, waterproofing, resoling and CSA work styles. Where Blundstone publishes an answer we use theirs; where it depends on what is on our shelf, the answer is ours. None of it is a substitute for trying a pair on.
Sizing and fit
The most-asked question in the store, and the one most often answered wrongly online.
What size Blundstone should I buy?
Blundstone stamps the AU/UK size on the sole rather than a US size. For women the AU number runs three below your usual US size, so a US 8 is an AU 5. For men it is roughly one below.
They fit true to size, so buy your size rather than sizing up. Come in and try a pair on if you are between sizes.
Do half sizes make Blundstones longer?
No. A half size up is a wider cut of the same last, not a longer one. Take it if you want more room across the foot, not more length.
How much room should there be at the toe?
Blundstone suggests roughly 1cm, about a quarter inch, between your longest toe and the front of the boot, with a slight give at the heel.
Should I size up in Blundstones?
Blundstones fit true to size, so buy your usual size rather than sizing up. There should be a slight give at the heel and about a quarter inch between your longest toe and the front of the boot.
A half size up is a wider cut of the same last, not a longer one, so take it for width rather than length. The leather moulds to your foot with wear but it never stretches lengthwise.
How Blundstones should fit?
Blundstone boots should have a slight give in the heel and about a quarter inch of space from the tip of the toe to the front of the boot. Over time, it will stretch slightly over the instep, but will never stretch lengthwise.
Why are Blundstones so hard to get on?
Blundstone boots take 4 to 8 weeks, depending upon use, to break in. They are designed to be worn with a snug fit, so it takes two months or more to get used to it.
Are Blundstones unisex sized?
Most Classics are built on a unisex last, which is why the AU number matters more than a men's or women's label. Some styles are cut specifically for women, including the Originals high tops and the heeled Women's Series. See the women's range.
Comfort and breaking in
What to expect from the first week.
Do Blundstones need breaking in?
Blundstone describes them as lightweight and comfortable from the outset rather than a boot you have to suffer through. Wearing them regularly softens the leather and it moulds to the shape of your foot.
What it will not do is get longer. Leather gives across the width, never in length, so a boot that is short when you buy it stays short.
Do Blundstones hurt at first?
Well-fitting Blundstones should not cause pain for long. However, it is normal for them to feel uncomfortable in the beginning, particularly at the top of the feet and the back of the ankle area. It will turn into comfort over time.
How long do Blundstones take to wear in?
Blundstone boots take two months to break in and can be broken in much more quickly with the right products. The best products for stretching Blundstone boots are boot stretchers, thick socks, hand-heel-crushing, mink oil, blister pads and ice packs.
Are Blundstone boots good for your feet?

Water, weather and winter
Straight answers for a Fraser Valley autumn.
Are Blundstones waterproof?
Most are water resistant rather than fully waterproof. The leather sheds rain well when new and dries out with wear, which is why Blundstone recommends re-waterproofing.
If you need genuinely waterproof, ask us: some styles use a waterproof membrane or Blundstone's vegan microfibre upper.
How often should I waterproof my Blundstones?
Blundstone recommends every three months, depending on how hard you wear them. Somebody on a wet job site should do it more often than somebody wearing them to the office.

Care, resoling and how long they last
The questions that decide whether a pair lasts two years or seven.
How do I clean and condition Blundstones?
Brush the dirt off, wipe them with a damp cloth and let them dry away from direct heat. Smooth leather takes a renovating cream or conditioner; suede and nubuck need a suede brush and a protector spray instead, never a cream.
Keeping the soles clean matters too. Grit packed into the tread wears the sole faster than the walking does.
Can Blundstones be resoled?
Usually not. Most Blundstone soles are injection moulded polyurethane bonded directly to the upper, which is what makes them light and comfortable but leaves nothing for a cobbler to stitch to.
The exception is the Heritage series, which is Goodyear welted and built to be resoled. If resoling matters to you, say so before you buy and we will point you at the right build.
How long should a pair of Blundstones last?
Blundstone says two to seven years under average wear, and is explicit that this is not a guarantee. Where you wear them, how often, and whether you condition them makes the difference.
Is there a warranty on Blundstone boots?
Blundstone covers manufacturing faults, not wear and tear, and does not offer a lifetime warranty. Bring a faulty pair back to us with your receipt and we will start the claim for you.
How long will Blundstones last?
Every pair of Blundstone boots tells its own story. Depending on the natural wear and tear, it could last between 2 to 7 years.
What leather does Blundstone use?
Blundstone boots are made from Greasy Kip Leather. This leather is treated at the factory to be as water-repellant as leather can be, without losing breathability.
Are there vegan Blundstones?
Yes. Blundstone makes a certified vegan range using a microfibre upper instead of leather. We do not stock every style, so call ahead if that is what you are after.
