What direct to film printing is, and what it suits
Direct to film printing is digital transfer printing: your artwork is printed onto a specialised film, coated with a heat-activated adhesive, and pressed into the garment. Because the file goes straight to the printer, there is no screen to burn, no separation to set up and no minimum quantity to justify the setup.
It is the right process when the artwork is complicated, the quantity is small, or the garments are mixed. Full-colour logos, photographs and gradients all suit it, and the same transfer works across cotton, polyester and blends, light or dark. It is the wrong process for a five-hundred-shirt run of a two-colour logo, where screen printing will be faster and cheaper per piece.

Is there a minimum order for DTF printing?
No. There is no minimum and no setup fee, so a single garment is a legitimate order.
What fabrics work with direct to film printing?
Cotton, polyester and blends, on light and dark garments alike. That range is DTF's main advantage over direct-to-garment printing.
How durable are DTF prints?
The transfer flexes with the fabric rather than cracking, and holds colour through repeated washing. For daily-wear uniforms that must outlast everything, embroidery is still the benchmark.
DTF or screen printing, which should I choose?
DTF for small quantities, mixed garments, full colour and photographic detail. Screen printing for larger runs of simpler artwork, where the per-piece cost drops once the screens exist.
Can you print a photo on a shirt?
Yes. Photographic artwork is exactly what DTF handles well, provided the file is high enough resolution for the print size.
